Welcome! I’m glad you stopped by. I live in San Antonio, TX and enjoy Jesus, hanging out with my husband, my church, coffee, Christmas, my job, cooking, and friends. I was an English major in college and am most excited about reading and writing when the topic is Jesus Christ.
I named the blog “Porch and Dove” after times of sitting on the porch with my Bible in front of me, listening to mourning doves in the background (they are my fave!). The scene reminds me of stillness, soaking up God’s word, and getting up with a changed heart. My hope is that this blog would be that kind of space for me (and maybe for others, too): a place for absorbing God’s word and getting up changed.
What you’ll find here are reflections on scripture and the working out of applying it… because although sitting on a porch with doves in the background sounds nice, it represents a place of need: needing Christ, needing transformation, needing grace, needing to see God’s glory. I don’t plan on saying anything brand-new or earth-shattering – but I do hope to put fresh words to what has always been true in scripture and remind myself and others of the “greatness of old truths:”
“What you and I need is usually not brand-new teaching. Brand-new truths are probably not truths. What we need are reminders about the greatness of the old truths. We need someone to say an old truth in a fresh way. Or sometimes, just to say it.”
